Quite a popular car, isn’t it? Proton has announced that the naturally-aspirated version of the S70 – part of the upcoming MC2 facelift lineup – has racked up 10,000 booking in exactly two weeks since it was announced earlier this month.
According to the national carmaker, this works out to one order every two minutes. While certainly impressive, it will take a while before those bookings are fulfilled, given that Proton’s sales are currently held back by production bottlenecks; the company doubtlessly wants to prioritise getting more units of the Saga into customers’ hands.
Jut one more day to go before the car is launched, with the event set to be livestreamed tomorrow, September 22 at 8pm. You’ll be able to watch the stream on Proton’s socials on Facebook and TikTok, just like we will be.
To recap, the NA S70 will extend the erstwhile turbo-only lineup downwards, essentially forming an indirect replacement for the soon-to-be-discontinued Persona. Proton promises a starting price of under RM60,000, which is very competitive indeed.
A total of two variants will be offered, these being the Lite and Prime. While exact pricing has yet to be revealed, a leaked internal presentation slide suggests that the former will be priced between RM55,000 to RM59,000 (jut a few thousand ringgit more than the top-spec Saga Premium), while the latter is expected to retail at between RM65,000 to RM69,000.
Both will be powered by the Saga MC3’s 120 PS/150 Nm 1.5 litre BHE15-CFN i-GT four-cylinder engine and a new torque converter CVT, likely the same WLY unit used in the S70’s Chinese-market twin, the Geely Emgrand. It’s expected to offer that car’s simulated eight-speed mode, albeit operated through the S70 Turbo’s exclusive electronic gearlever.
On the outside, the NA version is differentiated through the full gloss black grille. The specs are largely similar to the Executive turbo’s, except the Lite gets halogen headlights – something it makes up for with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto up/down windows and a reverse camera.
The Prime adds back LED headlights and introduces auto air con, faux leather and 17-inch alloy wheels (up from 16s), the latter previously reserved for the Flagship. One downside of choosing these two models is that neither can be had with advanced driver assists, not even autonomous emergency braking – something even the Saga Premium has for less money.

will this NA engine robust enough to use as Grab vehicles ? can it together with Saga draw away demand for Bezza ?
it seems a good move by proton with NA engine and gaining volume to speed up use of S70 chassis and allow for P1 to catch up with Geely facelift and updates
Budget tight? Get S70
Economical taxi luxury
Norm to listen to E-hailing driving bezza complaining fatigue and backache due to uncomfortable tiny driver seat.
You guys notice or not..since the Roslan dude(always giving excuses for underpar sales) migrated to Great Wall,Proton has evolved into a force to be reckon with.
Stingy, kedekut P2 started to chop prices of the Axia,Ativa,Aruz..which is unimaginable so far.
Many used car dealers were caught unaware suddenly. They have ‘ makan’ Peroduas that were overpriced suddenly, compared to rebated new Peroduas.
If the S70 Lite is RM55K vs Top range Saga, which would one choose?
A one year extra HP tenure would be enough to secure the S70 Lite..bigger in every sense of the word.
Bigger interior,plus larger boot space.
S70 Lite then hands down.
They can sell it at RM40k, but engine must subscribe lor.
The turbo flagship 10K discount.
Its 2026 now, not 2016,
No need to sacrifice for comfort.

Those who bought when this shit launched few years ago are potong kepala . Many desperate for quick sales to cut loss. Well , this is the price to pay to support the bloody Chinese .

You deserved a better comfort and more spacious vehicle,
The earlier you buy, the earlier you get to enjoy.
QV-E price cut heavily, we are moving closer to 2030.
those who bought 2 years ago are still enjoying the 180hp turbo engine and surround camera. if proton was still under the M control , never in a thousand years we can get such good specs at cheap price.
local talent got into uni using their kulification and agama, that’s y the end product is pigshit, they don’t deserve to be hired in the first place
kesian sour grapes japan car salesman gonna lose job soon .
CHINA WLY CVT > Punch CVT x10
The good
– cheaper price without turbo, enough power package for city driving on fuel efficiency and long term easier cheaper maintenance.
– Analogue meter, less electronic “AI” control like aeb, acc based on the unreliable front camera. Skip unnecessary problem when it goes wrong.
– At rm60k+-, the chassis, seat, interior much much better than perodua, where else a slightly better traz with a proper rear disc brake selling at rm80k.
Could have done better
– Unnecessary remote start engine gimmicks, could have cut that cost to give better processor chip or more ram for the laggy player. Luckily no more “hi proton” or the dancing rear light.
Why only online my PT friends. The Proton peeps didnt invite you guys again ah?
Such salty people. Arrogant.
