Here’s a surprise – Honda is presenting the Super EV Concept, a thinly-veiled look at a production electric A-segment hatch, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 10 to 13. The new car will sit at the opposite end to the 0 SUV and appears to draw plenty of design inspiration from the dearly-departed Honda e.
Styling cues seen on the camouflaged prototype being tested in the UK prior to the show include an oblong front panel incorporating round headlights and the charging port, a clamshell bonnet, heavily-flared fenders, a wraparound windscreen design and a shoulder line that swings upwards into the thick C-pillars. No hidden door handles here, however, with the Super EV sporting conventional pull-type items.
Honda has yet to release technical details just yet, but expect a range of between 300 to 400 km (which would be a useful boost over the Honda e’s 220 km), in keeping with rivals such as the Fiat 500e – all while offering a more practical five-door body style. The company says the Super EV will deliver an “uplifting, heart-pounding driving experience,” suggesting it will continue to employ a rear motor as per the Honda e.
The Super EV will be making the rounds on Goodwood’s hillclimb course, alongside a prototype of the also-forthcoming Prelude and the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition. The latter, revealed earlier this month, is the swan song for the iconic nameplate in Europe as tightening emissions regulations claim yet another victim.
