Overview

The Honda Civic Type R is the FL5 C-segment hot hatch, launched in 2023. It suits drivers who specifically want a four-seat, front-wheel-drive petrol performance car with a manual gearbox. There is one Malaysian variant, the 6MT, priced from RM399,900, with a 1,996 cc engine producing 315 hp.

The standard FL5 carries into 2026 unchanged, with the range remaining a single 6MT variant. No 2026-specific mechanical or model-year revision is announced. A Civic Type R ARTA GT is shown at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon in a 20-unit run inspired by a GT500 racer, but it does not alter the regular car. A January promotion applies discounts of up to RM60,000 to 2025 Civic Type R stock.

The FL5 is a focused, sixth-generation Type R built around a six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive. It is not the low-price route into this class: it costs more than the Volkswagen Golf R, Toyota GR Corolla and Renault Megane RS. Buyers are paying for a specific formula rather than broad variant choice. The lack of an automatic option makes it a car for drivers who actively want to shift gears themselves.
