Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong has announced the national carmaker’s 2030 targets at the ongoing Proton Tech Showcase launch at the Proton Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam.
What’s targeted in five years from now are a doubling of sales to 330,000 units, with 30% of them being hybrids and EVs, 30% sold outside Malaysia and over 30 export markets.
The ambitious 330,000 figure is in fact a reiteration – the CEO first mentioned it in January – but the three ’30s’ are new, so we know the focus is also on accelerating hybrids, EVs and exports.
Proton also targets to sell over 180,000 units in 2026 – 15.4% more than it expects to close 2025 with (156,000) – and half a million units by 2035! For context, Perodua, ASEAN’s second-biggest carmaker by sales, expects to sell 359,000 units this year.
