The new BMW 118i Sport is now available in Malaysia, with a starting price of RM188,800 (OTR without insurance). BMW Malaysia has just confirmed the news, following a Facebook post that recently revealed the new variant’s arrival.
Joining the RM219,800 BMW 120i M Sport, the new 118i base variant now becomes the most affordable brand-new BMW in Malaysia money can buy, undercutting the previous BMW 318i LCI which retails at RM208,800.
But instead of featuring a lower-tuned version of the 1.6 litre four-pot in the 120i, the 118i features – for the first time in the 1 Series’ history – a 1.5 litre BMW TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine – the very engine that powers the new BMW 318i LCI as well.
Power figures for the new 118i are rated at 136 hp at 4,400 rpm and 220 Nm from 1,250 to 4,300 rpm. This premium hatchback can perform its century sprint in 8.7 seconds, while its combined fuel consumption figure is rated at 5.1 litres per 100 km. As with the majority of BMW models in Malaysia, the new 118i variant gets an eight-speed Steptronic torque converter automatic transmission as standard.
Dressed in a Sport Line kit, the exterior of the car features sporty bumpers with gloss black highlights and unique side skirts. Two-tone 17-inch star-spoke wheels are specified as standard, wrapped in 225/45R17 rubbers. As mentioned yesterday, the wheels are an inch down on the 18-inch M Sport wheels of the 120i, but fortunately, the full-LED headlights are maintained on this variant.
Inside, the BMW 118i gets power-adjustable sport seats upholstered in Sensatec leather, gloss black trim with matte red highlights, a multi-function sports steering wheel, engine push-start button, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, auto headlamps and wipers as well as a BMW Radio Professional with iDrive operating system and a 6.5-inch free-standing iDrive display screen.
Safety features for the new BMW 118i include six airbags as standard (two front, two side, two curtain), a Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) with ABS, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) on top of ISOFIX child seat anchors in the rear seats.
As available with the new F48 BMW X1 and BMW 3 LCI, the new base 1 Series variant also gets BMW Malaysia’s recently-introduced ConnectedDrive services. Three highlights of the feature are included on the 118i Sport, being the Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices and Remote Services — missing is the Concierge Services that we saw on the higher-spec 3 Series and X1.
A SIM card is built into the vehicle to enable data connectivity, allowing drivers to utilise the three new functions, which we have detailed for you before.
The new BMW 118i Sport will be available in five body colours options, including Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey, Crimson Red, Midnight Blue and Alpine White. The car will be available for viewing in BMW showrooms nationwide from November 25, 2015, onwards. Included in the RM188,800 (OTR without insurance) price tag is BMW’s new five years, unlimited mileage warranty and free scheduled service programme.
