Overview

The BMW X3 is a five-seat compact executive SUV for drivers who want all-wheel drive and petrol-hybrid power in a premium-sized family car. The G45 generation launches in 2025 and starts from RM325,800 in Malaysia, with the choice of 20 xDrive M Sport or the more powerful 30 xDrive M Sport.

X3 in 2026 — what's new

For 2026, the G45 X3 range gains the 30 xDrive M Sport alongside the 20 xDrive M Sport. The 30 uses a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 258 PS and 400 Nm, and adds a Harman Kardon sound system with 15 speakers. Both current X3 variants use a 1,998 cc petrol-hybrid powertrain, automatic transmission, xDrive all-wheel drive and five seats.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should start with the X3 20 xDrive M Sport at RM325,800. It has the same 1,998 cc capacity, automatic gearbox, xDrive all-wheel drive and five-seat layout as the 30. Pay RM358,800 for the X3 30 xDrive M Sport if the 255 hp output matters: it has 67 hp more than the 20’s 188 hp, plus the 15-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The RM33,000 gap is substantial, so check the equipment list before paying for the stronger engine.

Verdict

The X3 offers a straightforward two-variant range: both versions bring xDrive all-wheel drive and five seats, while the 30 provides a clear step up in power and audio equipment. Its entry price sits below the Volvo XC60 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, but the 30 costs more than the Audi Q5. The decision comes down to whether the extra 67 hp and Harman Kardon system justify RM33,000.
