Overview

The Suzuki Jimny is a four-seat B-segment SUV for buyers who want a compact petrol automatic with AWD rather than maximum passenger capacity. This JB74 generation, launched in 2021, uses a 1,462 cc 100 hp engine and costs from RM158,900 in Malaysia. It is a niche choice, not a conventional family SUV.

Jimny in 2026 — what's new

For 2026, the Jimny range comprises the 1.5 AllGrip Plus and 1.5 Rhino Plus. Both receive ADAS plus front and rear parking sensors, while both variants also get a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty. A further special edition has been teased, but no confirmed specification or price is established. The AllGrip Plus is also available through Flux vehicle subscription at RM3,300 per month.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should take the RM158,900 1.5 AllGrip Plus. It has the same 1,462 cc 100 hp petrol engine, automatic transmission, AWD layout and four-seat cabin as the RM173,900 1.5 Rhino Plus. The RM15,000 step to the Rhino Plus does not buy more power, seats or a different drivetrain on paper, so check its equipment list closely before paying extra. Both get ADAS and front and rear parking sensors.

Verdict

The Jimny is an intentionally specialised little SUV: four seats, 100 hp and AWD in a distinctly old-school package. Its price is hard to ignore. It costs more than the Honda e:N1 and Chery Omoda E5, as well as far more than the Perodua Ativa and Aruz, though the smart #1 starts higher. Buy it for its specific compact AWD formula, not rational space-per-ringgit arithmetic.
