Overview
Volkswagen’s Touareg CR facelift is a five-seat executive SUV for buyers wanting a petrol-powered, all-wheel-drive alternative to electric luxury SUVs. Launched in Malaysia in 2024, it pairs a 3.0-litre V6 with an automatic transmission in R-Line form. Prices start from RM384,972.
Touareg in 2026 — what's new
The CR facelift carries into 2026 with the single petrol R-Line, with no new 2026 Malaysian specification announced. Its 2024 Malaysian launch brought CKD assembly, and the R-Line’s starting price was revised to around RM385k without VAP in 2025. Volkswagen’s longer-term Touareg plans remain unclear: the next Touareg is set to become an EV, but an earlier announcement said the model would end and be replaced by the Tayron. No EV launch timing or specifications are confirmed.
Verdict
The Touareg takes a particular route into the executive SUV class: a five-seat petrol AWD V6 rather than electric power. At RM384,972, it costs RM88,362 more than the Mazda CX-80, though it undercuts the Volvo XC90, BMW iX and Volvo EX90. It is not a cheap entry into the segment, which starts at RM296,610. The lack of a second variant keeps the buying decision simple.
