Corolla in 2026 — what's new
For 2026, the Corolla sedan carries on unchanged: there is no announced 2026-specific Malaysian update for the E210 Facelift. The range remains the 1.8G and 1.8 GR Sport, both with a 1,798 cc, 137 hp petrol engine, front-wheel drive, CVT automatic transmission and five seats. The Toyota Corolla Concept shown at KLIMS 2026 is a concept, not a stated replacement or update for this sedan.
Which variant to buy
Most buyers should choose the RM144,800 1.8G. It has the same listed 1,798 cc, 137 hp petrol powertrain, front-wheel drive, CVT and five-seat layout as the GR Sport. The RM5,000 step to the RM149,800 1.8 GR Sport does not buy extra listed power or a different drivetrain. On paper, you are paying for GR Sport trim rather than mechanicals, so check its equipment list before paying more.
Verdict
The Corolla is a straightforward petrol sedan with one powertrain across the range, so the decision is uncomplicated. But its RM144,800 entry price is RM10,900 above the Honda Civic, RM44,800 above the BYD Seal 6 and RM71,000 above the Proton S70. It is also slightly below the RM146,055 Peugeot 408. Buyers need to want the Corolla specifically, because the price leaves little mechanical distinction between its two variants.
