Capital Intertrade, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bursa-listed Permaju Industries, will cease its Ford dealership business after mutually agreeing with Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC) to terminate their dealer sales and service agreement effective July 31, 2026.
“The termination was served upon deliberating and analysing past performance, current and future possibilities, which indicated a lack of sustainability and growth potential,” Permaju said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia, reported by The Star.
It added that Capital Intertrade had served a notice of company closure and surrender of operations to SDAC for the termination of the dealership agreement entered into on April 22, 2011. Permaju said the termination is not expected to have any material effect on its gearing, earnings per share, net assets or shareholdings for the financial year ending September 30, 2026.
The company added that it is currently negotiating with other brands as a possible replacement and will make an announcement once finalised. Capital Intertrade operates Ford TTDI in Sg Penchala. Its holding company also owns Cergazam, now an Xpeng dealer. If the name sounds familiar, Cergazam previously represented Chevrolet, Volkswagen and for a short period, MG.

Ford itself also cannot sell well. Cannot af-FORD to hang on to business.

Ford has several issues here. Key is the lack of a proper model range. Perhaps those nice SUVs from UK are too expensive to manufacture or assemble here in this region. On EVs, there is the Puma, Capri and Mach-E. They have hybrids and ICE as well, Most of their range are SUVs now and this is in line with Malaysian tastes for SUVs these days as data suggests. But somehow, they’re not here with Ford (not sure who is at fault…Ford or Sime Sarby) choosing to put all their eggs in 1 basket, the Ranger. Even Mitsubishi has wisen up and offered the well-selling Xpander and now the X-Force, capturing their share of the budget MPV and SUV markets. Next is their aftersales support which can really do much better. Try bringing a Focus or Fiesta to their authorised workshops and see if they care about those customers. Do they even have spare parts? Looking after past customers is a good way to win them for new vehicles. It is not being done. Overall, the brand and its handlers are equally at fault for this once great brand. I’ve had 2 Mk2 Escorts before and have a Lynx RS now. In my family there is also a Focus TDCI. We’ve had a string of other Fords as well, today however, it is sad to say, the brand handlers don’t seem to have any direction (well, from a 3rd party view anyway). By the way, discounting while good for customers is nothing more than a short term gain which damages the brand’s reputation and value in the long run. Potential custoemrs will see it as a discount brand like Nissan and it will lead to harder loan approvals and lower residuals. SDAC, do pay attention to that seriously or you’ll lose more dealers soon!
Ah. So simple business strategies proposition.
Your car easy to sell, we be your dealer distributor. Your cars don’t sell, sorry.
If I remember correctly.. another company doing same was Persada Auto. Previously a Ford dealer but when Ford business not good, it decided to change to become Mazda dealership. Or Millenium group (now focused BMW only, no more Mazda and Peugoet)
Its a totally professional decisions. We here to earn money ma. How to survive when company not making profit.
This is different to giants like Wheelcorp (Toyota, BMW), Goh brothers (Toyota, Lexus, BMW and 10 years ago a huge chain network of VW up northern region) or maybe Sing Kwung (BYD, Mitsubishi, Kia, Hyundai, Peugoet, Ford)
