The 2026 Malaysian round of the Autobacs Super GT series may be cancelled due to a request from the Malaysian government, reported Sportscar365.
The motorsport publication reported that the Malaysian government has requested that large-scale events which are not of national significance are put on hold due to concerns for potential fuel shortages.
If cancelled, the Malaysian round of the Super GT series will be latest among a number of motorsports events which have been postponed or cancelled amid the conflict in the Middle East, including the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian rounds of this year’s Formula 1 calendar, and the rescheduling of the Qatar 1812km round of the World Endurance Championship from March to October.
Inflated costs of transporting freight and personnel are also believed to have played a role in the reported cancellation of the Malaysian round of the Super GT event this year, according to the report.
This year’s Malaysian round of the Super GT series was announced to take place from June 19 to 21, 2026, and was to the third round of the Super GT calendar and the only round to be held outside the series’ native Japan. If the Malaysian round is cancelled, this would leave a three-month gap between the Fuji Speedway rounds on May 3-4, and on August 1-2.
The 2025 Malaysian round of the Autobacs Super GT series marked its return to Malaysia after an absence of 12 years, after the Sepang International Circuit hosted the Japanese racing series from 2000 to 2013. The Malaysian round of the series last year saw 75,977 spectators in attendance, and was the highest attendance in the series save for Round 2 in Fuji, according to Sportscar365.
