Wow! The Honda Super-One Prototype that we just saw at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show has been spotted testing in Malaysia. This mule – captured by Jon Koh – might have camouflage all over its body, but the tall shape of the little hatchback, its flared arches and those LED signature lighting are unmistakably Super EV. Melaka trade plates too, and we all know where Honda Malaysia’s factory is.

The Super-One Prototype that had a world premiere Tokyo Big Sight alongside the 0 α (Alpha) SUV prototype is essentially the fleshed out version of the Super EV Concept that made its debut at UK’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in June before we detailed it for you at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in July.

The Super-One is a step closer to production, and this sighting confirms that plans are underway, and Malaysia is set to receive the electric A-segment hatch. Honda says that this car, based on the N-One e: kei EV, represents its aspiration to create a vehicle that transcends conventional norms and standards (super) and delivers customer value unique only to Honda (one and only).

EVs are good for the environment, we’re told, but the difference between this and many other EVs is that there’s some enthusiast appeal, and we’re not talking about tech enthusiasts. There’s clear inspiration from the Honda City Turbo of the 80s, the one with the cool Motocompo motorcycle that folds into the boot. Honda says that the Super-One has a ‘fun of driving’ character, adding fuel to the fire of desire.

The design is like a kei car on steroids, manifesting in prominent squared-off blister fenders covering wide tyres for a low and wide stance. Check out the showcar’s tyre-fender gap. By the way, this development mule wears multi-spoke wheels and not the cool four twin-spoke alloys of the JMS showcar.

Nothing has been revealed about the EV’s powertrain and specs, but they’ve mentioned a Boost Mode developed exclusively for this model – the mode maximises power output while synchronising the simulated seven-speed transmission and the Active Sound Control system for some good ol’ ICE feel.

With a sporty brief, we can expect the Super’s outputs to be beyond that of the Honda e and N-One e:. The former made up to 154 PS (113 kW) and 315 Nm, but offered just 220 km of claimed range from a 35.5 kWh battery, while the kei car churns out a regulated 64 PS (47 kW) and 162 Nm with 295 km of range from a 29.6 kWh battery.

Inside, the Super’s cabin has a much less busy feel compared to the theatre of the Honda e, with two normal sized screens providing a more traditional feel. Display features include a a triple-gauge cluster for Boost Mode. Again, ICE feel. There are also sports seats with an asymmetric layout of blue accents, which is a nice playful touch.

Honda says it is aiming to launch the production model of the Super-One Prototype in Japan next year, followed by other regions with strong demand for compact EVs. The UK and various countries in the Asia and Oceania regions have been mentioned – Malaysia should be in the list too. Word is that the production car will retain its Super-One moniker, save for the UK, where it will be called Super-N.

It’ll only sell if the price is competitive with eMas 5. Looks like the same size and range so only Bangsa H will buy it if overpriced.
