Honda Super-One Prototype EV debuts in Tokyo – A-segment hatch to arrive in 2026, to be sold in Asia

Aside from the 0 α (Alpha) SUV prototype, Honda also gave the Super-One Prototype its global premiere at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. The compact EV study is essentially the fleshed out version of the Super EV Concept that made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in June before making a showcase appearance in the region at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2025) in July.

This time around, things are moving closer to the production version of the electric A-segment hatch, as the wraps come off to reveal the sport-oriented shape in full. The automaker says that the car, based on the N-One e: kei EV, has been envisioned as a compact EV designed to transform everyday mobility into an exciting and uplifting experience by adopting a variety of features that make the in-vehicle experience more enjoyable for customers.

As for the name, it says that it represents its aspiration to create a vehicle that transcends conventional norms and standards (“super”) and delivers customer value unique only to Honda (“one and only”).

In addition to excellent environmental performance and everyday usability, the car is said to feature a “fun of driving” character. Leveraging the lightweight platform advanced for its N Series models, the promise is sporty and nimble driving, and its styling is matched to that outlook.

Design elements of what is essentially a kei car given the steroid treatment include prominent blister fenders encasing wide tyres to emphasise a low and wide stance. More subtle design cues involve aerodynamics, with front and rear air ducts helping to enhances performance in this area while also ensuring efficient cooling.

As before, nothing has been revealed about the powertrain and its specs, but mention is made that a Boost Mode, developed exclusively for the car, increases the power output to enable the power unit to fully unleash its performance potential, while also synchronising the simulated seven-speed transmission and the Active Sound Control system to generate a powerful engine sound and sharp gearshift feel as if driving an engine-powered vehicle with a traditional multi-gear transmission.

Given the car’s sporty nature, we can expect outputs to be beyond that of the Honda e and N-One e:. The former made up to 154 PS (113 kW) and 315 Nm of torque and offered a scant 220 km of range from its 35.5 kWh battery, while the latter churns out 64 PS (47 kW) and 162 kW – in keeping with kei car norms – and delivers 295 km of range through its 29.6 kWh battery.

Inside, the cabin has a less busy feel to it compared to the Honda e, with averagely-sized dual screens providing a more traditional feel to things. The automaker says that the horizontal orientation of the instrument panel reduces visual noise and offers a clearer field of vision, enabling the driver to focus more on driving. Display features include a dedicated setting for such as a triple-gauge cluster and an illumination colour for Boost Mode.

Another highlight is the sports seats, which have been designed exclusively for the car. Aside from providing secure, stable seating, the asymmetric layout of blue surface material gives the cabin a bit more lift by adding a playful touch to the interior colour coordination.

Honda says it is aiming to launch the series production model of the Super-One Prototype in Japan starting in 2026, followed by other regions with strong demand for compact EVs, such as the UK and various countries in the Asia and Oceania regions, which means it could be heading our way. In terms of naming convention, it will be retain its Super-One moniker across the markets it is sold, save for the UK, where it will be called the Super-N.
