The road transport department (JPJ) has advised the public to be wary of advertisements offering driving licences without training or testing. This comes after the department received complaints regarding such advertisements for what is commonly known as kopi-o licences, which are illegal as it is a form of bribery.
The department said a social media account named ‘Sekolah Memandu Jaya’ was promoting kopi-o licence services, falsely claiming that a valid driving licence could be obtained without taking driving tests. The posts also featured a photo of transport minister Anthony Loke to gain public confidence.
“JPJ stresses that the advertisement and the account involved are fake. The public is advised not to be easily fooled by promotions spread through advertisements or illegal accounts like these to avoid any confusion and losses,” it said in a statement.
If you’re unsure about any driving licence-related information, check directly with the JPJ, and if you spot advertisements promoting illegal kopi-o licence services, lodge a complaint at the department’s official portal.
