Following its preview last month, the Dongfeng Vigo EV has now been launched in Malaysia; also launched alongside it today is the Dongfeng 007. Priced at RM108,888 on-the-road without insurance, the Vigo – like the 007 – gets introductory pricing that includes a RM8,888 discount, bringing the price of the Vigo to RM100,000.

The Dongfeng Vigo measures 4.306 mm long, 1,868 mm wide and 1,654 mm tall with a 2,715 mm wheelbase. For comparison, the BYD Atto 2 is in its ballpark, with the latter measuring 4 mm shorter, 38 mm wider and 30 mm lower. One variant for the Malaysian-market equivalent of the Nammi 06 is offered at launch, and this features a front-mounted 161 hp/230 Nm permanent synchronous motor that propels the Vigo from 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds.

This draws from a 51.87 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery that offers an estimated 471 km on China’s CLTC test cycle; this can be expected to be closer to the region of 330 km to 380 km on the WLTP testing standard.

In terms of charging, the Vigo takes up to 167 kW DC charging via CCS2 connector, while AC home charging via Type 2 connector is 6.6 kW, the latter method bringing a full charge in nine hours. Conversely, the Vigo can provide a V2L supply at up to 3.3 kW.

For chassis specifications, the Vigo gets McPherson struts in front and a torsion beam layout at the rear, with disc brakes for both front and rear axles. Rolling stock is a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, shod in tyres measuring 215/55R18.

In front, the Vigo gets inverted L-shaped projector LED headlights, while its doors get flush handles employing electronic release mechanisms. At the rear, the Vigo gets a split tailgate arrangement such as those found in more upmarket SUVs such as the BMW X5 and the Range Rover, opening to a luggage compartment that holds 500 litres.

Interior equipment in the Vigo is comprised of six-way, power-adjustable front seats, with the driver’s seat additionally getting a memory function and seat ventilation. Interior upholstery is by vegan leather in a single light grey and black colour scheme, with further equipment including wireless device charging, configurable ambient lighting that can be synced to music playback, and automatic air-conditioning with PM2.5 filtration.

The driver gets a 8.8-inch driver display unit, while infotainment is a 12.8-inch central touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto for smartphone connectivity.

For driving assistance features, the Vigo gets a suite of Level 2 ADAS functions including autonomous emergency braking, front collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition. Also included are ABS, EBD, brake assist, traction control, stability control, and hill start assist.

As with its Malaysian-market stablemates, the Dongfeng Vigo is covered by a six-year, unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, and an eight-year, unlimited mileage warranty for its drive battery. Six exterior colours are offered on the Dongfeng Vigo – Arctic White, Titanium Silver, Sandstone Beige, Mosswood Green, Canyon Orange, and Cyber Black.

In Malaysia, the Dongfeng brand is represented by Volt Auto, which is partnered with Pekema subsidiary Central Auto Distributors Berhad (CADB). The brand is exploring options for local assembly (CKD) operations in Malaysia, it stated.

Aside from the Dongfeng 007, Central Auto Distributors (CADB) has also previewed the Dongfeng Vigo in Malaysia. Not to be confused with the seventh-generation Thai-market Toyota Hilux, this is an electric SUV that’s sized to compete with the BYD Atto 2.

However, given that it will be launched in the first quarter of next year – and thus miss out on tax incentives for CBU fully-imported EVs that expire on December 31 – the Vigo is expected to be priced closer to the what the Atto 3 and Proton eMas 7 cost currently. So, likely somewhere in the region of between RM110,000 and RM120,000, then.

No local specifications have been released just yet, but the Chinese-market Nammi 06 is powered by a single front motor producing 184 PS (135 kW) and 290 Nm of torque, getting it from zero to 50 km/h (not 100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds. Top speed is limited to 150 km/h.

Two LFP battery sizes are offered in the Middle Kingdom – a 44.94 kWh pack with a claimed range of 401 km and a 51.87 kWh unit that is said to enable up to 471 km on a single charge. Keep in mind that these figures are on China’s optimistic CLTC cycle; expect around 330 km and 380 km on the stricter WLTP cycle. Not exactly stellar for the price, but this is probably what it’ll be like for CBU EVs moving forward.

Charging using a DC fast charger from 30 to 80% takes 30 minutes with the smaller battery and 18 minutes with the larger one, the latter accepting up to 167 kW. Just like the 007, the Vigo will only support up to 6.6 kW of AC charging, so a full charge takes 8.3 hours with the 44.94 kWh battery and nine hours with the 51.87 kWh unit. A 3.3 kWh vehicle-to-load (V2L) function is at least included.

Measuring 4,306 mm long, 1,868 mm wide and 1,645 mm tall, the Vigo is four millimetres shorter, 38 mm wider and 30 mm lower than the Atto 2, making it around 149 mm shorter than the Atto 3. Its 2,715 mm wheelbase, however, is a whopping 95 mm longer than the Atto 2 and barely five millimetres shorter than the Atto 3, which should benefit rear-seat legroom.

On the outside, the Vigo cuts a distinctive figure with a funky angular design that is said to be inspired by a Rubik’s cube, although we can spot a number of styling cues lifted from the Kia EV5. This is most apparent at the front, which features inverted L-shaped projector LED headlights joined together by a transparent plastic bar, underlined by copious amounts of black plastic cladding and a silver skid plate.

Along the side, you’ll find chunky squared-off wheel arch extensions, a wraparound windscreen design and unique side mirrors with black lines running along the centre, sitting atop a sizeable base that includes the indicators. The flush door handles look to be conventional mechanical door pulls (à la modern BMWs) but are actually fixed items, with buttons underneath for activating the electronic releases. The Vigo rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with a full aero fairing, although more stylish 18-inch alloys are available.

The rear end features triangular taillight structures and the Vigo’s party piece – a split-opening tailgate akin to a BMW X5 or a Range Rover. This opens up to a commodious 500 litre boot, and unlike the 007’s one-piece rear bench, the pews on the back of this car are split 60:40. There’s also a dual-level boot floor and lots of storage underneath, and while the car you see here doesn’t have a front boot, we’ve been assured that customer units will have one.

Inside the Vigo sits a minimalist cabin with a multifunction centre console, housing plenty of storage spaces, a 50-watt Qi wireless charging tray and no less than three pull-out cupholders. As per the 007, there’s an 8.8-inch instrument display and a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, the latter with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The front occupants sit on six-way power-adjustable seats with driver’s side memory and ventilation, upholstered in faux leather. There’s also single-zone auto air con, tilt-only (no telescopic) steering wheel adjustment and customisable ambient lighting with the typical Chinese-car “rhythmic” function. This lighting extends to the doors, where it shows up in a cool radial pattern. The car is also available with a panoramic glass roof, but this is not fitted on the display unit.

Pricing may be uncompetitive at first, but CADB does have plans for CKD local assembly to take advantage of continuing tax breaks. However, the PEKEMA-owned company is still in the preliminary stages of planning and has not selected a partner for the factory. Would you buy the Vigo over a BYD Atto 2, Atto 3 or Proton eMas 7? Let us know in the comments.

  • Dongfeng Vigo SUV, 007 sedan in Malaysia soon

Dongfeng Vigo SUV, 007 sedan in Malaysia soon

A dealer recruitment ad posted by Dongfeng Cars Malaysia on its Facebook page suggests that the Vigo (Nammi 06) SUV and 007 sedan will come to Malaysia soon to join the only Dongfeng passenger car you can buy at present – the circa-RM100k Box née Nammi 01.

First revealed in February before debuting at Auto Shanghai 2025, the Nammi 06’s length, width, height and wheelbase are respectively 4,306, 1,868, 1,645 and 2,715 mm, making it closer in size to a BYD Atto 3 than a BYD Dolphin. In China, it’s a BYD Atto 2/Yuan Up competitor – its 184 PS front electric motor is fed by either a 44.94 kWh battery for a 401 km CLTC range, or a 51.87 kWh battery for a 471 km CLTC range.

Noteworthy are the stalk-mounted side mirrors, split tailgate and chunky wheel arch claddings, while the minimalist interior contains a 12.8-inch centre touch-screen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, a column gear selector behind an oblong two-tone, two-spoke steering wheel, six speakers, a wireless charging pad, and heated/ventilated/massage seats on higher variants in China.

Meanwhile, the 007 sedan, born in 2024 as the eπ 007 before forming the base for the Nissan N7 (which may enter the Japanese market soon) almost a full year later, was the eπ (pronounced ‘yipai’) sub-brand’s first model. EV and range-extended (REEV) versions are available in China.

Underpinned by the Quantum Architecture No 3 Platform, the 007 measures 4,880 mm long, 1,895 mm wide and 1,460 mm tall, with a 2,915 mm wheelbase. Features include a 0.209 drag coefficient, fastback styling, Level 2+ ADAS, frameless doors, optional front scissor doors and an optional electric rear wing.

Available in China are 218 PS/310 Nm one-motor, 272 PS/320 Nm one-motor and 544 PS/640 Nm two-motor versions – the last offers a 3.9-second 0-100 km/h time. 56.83 and 70.26 kWh batteries yield CLTC ranges of 530 km, 620 km, and 540 km (two-motor) respectively. The REEV version combines a 1.5 litre engine with the 218 PS motor and a 28.39 kWh battery to yield 1,200 km of total range and 200 km of EV-only range.

Interior features include a slightly-oblong-shaped steering wheel, a large panoramic glass roof, an 8.8-inch instrument panel, a 15.6-inch centre touch-screen, wireless phone charging and 20 speakers, including in the headrests. Looks like a nice place to be, that’s for sure.

Excited for these? Would you prefer the EV or the REEV version of the 007 sedan?

  • Dongfeng Nammi 06 EV debuts in Shanghai – bigger than Box, split tailgate, 184 PS, up to 471 km CLTC

Dongfeng Nammi 06 EV debuts in Shanghai – bigger than Box, split tailgate, 184 PS, up to 471 km CLTC

You saw the Dongfeng Nammi 06 EV (Dongfeng Vigo for export markets) for the first time in February; bet you didn’t expect it to have a split tailgate. Well, it does, as these Auto Shanghai 2025 photos prove, and the bottom part can take up to 150 kg. Should be good for those tailgate parties.

According to Car News China, the Nammi 06 is on pre-sale in China with five variants priced from RMB89,900-119,900 (RM53k-71k), and the second quarter should see it hit the roads to fight the BYD Yuan Up (Atto 2 in other markets).

Its 184 PS front electric motor is fed by either a 44.94 kWh battery for a 401 km range, or a 51.87 kWh battery for a 471 km range. That’s not a lot of range, considering the very-generous CLTC standard.

Still, it’s better than the Atto 2’s 301-401 km CLTC (the bigger number shrinks to 312 km on the WLTP standard). 30-80% charging takes 18 minutes.

It’s actually Nammi’s second vehicle after the Nammi 01, which is on sale in Malaysia as the Dongfeng Box. The Kia-esque design has a bluff front end, stalk-mounted side mirrors and chunky wheel arch claddings over 17-inch alloys. Length, width, height and wheelbase are respectively 4,306 mm, 1,868 mm, 1,645 mm and 2,715 mm – Atto 2-sized, give or take.

The minimalist interior contains a 12.8-inch centre touch-screen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, a column gear selector behind an oblong two-tone, two-spoke steering wheel, six speakers, a wireless charging pad, and heated/ventilated/massage seats on higher variants. What do you think? Want this for Malaysia?

Dongfeng Nammi 06 EV – 184 PS, bigger than Box

The Dongfeng Nammi 01 is already on sale in Malaysia as the circa-RM100k Dongfeng Box; now here’s something bigger – the Nammi 06. It’s actually the second vehicle Nammi has developed.

According to Car News China, the Nammi 06 is 4,306 mm long, 1,868 mm wide and 1,645 mm tall, with 2,715 mm between the front and rear wheels. So it’s 286 mm longer, 58 mm wider and 75 mm taller than the Nammi 01/Dongfeng Box, while having a 65 mm longer wheelbase.

There’s a single 184 PS motor – although CNC doesn’t report if it’s front- or rear-mounted, the Dongfeng Box’s is front-mounted, so it’d be reasonable to expect the same here. Kerb weight is 1,975 kg and top speed is 150 km/h, while battery details have not been revealed yet.

Am I the only one who thinks it looks a bit Kia-ish? Those stalk-mounted side mirrors are interesting, though. CNC says the vehicle could show up at Auto Shanghai in April with a circa-RMB100,000 (RM61k) price tag.
