Volkswagen is at the paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2025 – co-sponsored by Carro and Kärcher – this weekend at the Setia City Convention Centre with its complete line-up of models, including the recently launched eighth-generation Golf facelift range, currently comprised of the R-Line and the GTI. Also on display here are the Touareg R-Line, and the Tiguan Allspace R-Line.
The mainstay of the performance hatchback segment that is the Golf GTI, here in facelifted form with the now-familiar EA888 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four cylinder petrol engine that outputs 265 PS and 370 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
This enables the Mk8 Golf GTI to attain a 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds, and the performance is managed by an XDS electronic differential lock along with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adaptive dampers.
Joining the Golf GTI is the Golf 1.5 eTSI in R-Line guise, and its transmission pairing makes a return to the seven-speed dry dual-clutch automatic, sending the EA211 engine’s outputs of 150 PS and 250 Nm to the front wheels. Featuring a mild-hybrid setup, this incorporates a 48-volt belt-driven starter-generator that aids accelerative performance and enables the engine to switch off while coasting.
More revisions feature in the cabin of the facelifted Mk8 Golf, where the infotainment is now a 12.9-inch touchscreen, up from the 10-inch maximum of the pre-facelift model. Arguably of even more importance is the return to physical buttons on its steering wheel, replacing the capacitive touch units of the pre-facelift. Also included here is the new IDA voice control system integrated with ChatGPT.
Alongside the Golf GTI and Golf eTSI R-Line, the Volkswagen line-up at ACE 2025 is also comprised of the Touareg R-Line and the Tiguan Allspace R-Line, with the duo making up the brand’s range of SUVs in the country.

Joining the Volkswagen brand is sister marque, Audi which is present at ACE 2025 with the Q7, the brand’s seven-seater SUV that is assembled in Malaysia. In 3.0 TFSI guise, this packs a 3.0 litre mild-hybrid turbocharged petrol V6 engine that makes 340 PS and 500 Nm, sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission.
Agility for the Q7 is aided with the inclusion of all-wheel-steering, while sports-tuned adaptive air suspension brings adjustability to its chassis. Joining the kit list are HD Matrix LED headlamps with laser high beams, the S line trim specification with the black styling package bringing black elements to the grille, exterior door mirrors and more, along with 22-inch Audi Sport V-spoke alloy wheels.
Elsewhere, equipment in the Q7 includes a head-up display, soft-closing doors, rear door sunshades, Audi Connect navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Qi wireless device charging, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium 3D sound system, a 360-degree camera system, and park assist.
In terms of safety and assistance systems, the Q7 gets utonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane keeping assist, evasive steering assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, reverse AEB, a door opening warning and adaptive high beam.
