The Elegance uses front-wheel drive and 148 hp; the R-Line moves to all-wheel drive and 261 hp. No later 2026 changes are announced.

Most buyers should take the 1.5 eTSI Elegance at RM190,660 because it is the only Tayron with a confirmed Malaysian price, while retaining seven seats, front-wheel drive and 148 hp. The 2.0 TSI R-Line is priced TBA, so its extra cost cannot yet be measured. Pay more for the R-Line only if its 261 hp output and all-wheel drive matter to you. On paper, the decision is powertrain-led rather than a simple equipment upgrade.

The Tayron gives Volkswagen a direct seven-seat successor to the Tiguan Allspace, with local Pekan assembly and a choice between an eTSI front-driver and a 261 hp all-wheel-drive petrol model. Its entry price is higher than the Proton X90, Jetour VT9, Leapmotor C10, Omoda Jaecoo C9 and J8, plus the Chery Tiggo 9. The gap to the J8 is RM11,860, so price is not the Tayron’s easy argument.
