Verdict
The Mk8.5 Golf R-Line is a straightforward but costly route into a five-seat Volkswagen hatchback, sitting above the MG 4, Mazda 3 Hatchback and Nissan Leaf on price. Its 148 hp eTSI drivetrain is distinct from the GTI’s performance-focused setup, so GTI expectations do not apply here. With one local trim, buyers either accept the R-Line specification or look outside the Golf range.
