Overview

The Toyota Innova Zenix is a D-segment, three-row MPV for families needing seven or eight seats but preferring SUV-influenced styling to a traditional boxy people carrier. Launched in Malaysia in 2023, it starts from RM165,000 and uses front-wheel drive throughout the range.

Innova Zenix in 2026 — what's new

No 2026-specific update has been announced, so the Innova Zenix carries into 2026 unchanged from the Malaysian range introduced in 2023. There are still two versions: the eight-seat 2.0 V with a 1,987 cc petrol engine and CVT, and the seven-seat 2.0 HEV petrol-hybrid with an eCVT. Both are front-wheel-drive three-row MPVs.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should pick the RM165,000 2.0 V. It is the only eight-seater, has 174 hp from its 1,987 cc petrol engine and uses a CVT automatic. Pay RM37,000 more for the RM202,000 2.0 HEV only if seven seats are sufficient and its petrol-hybrid powertrain, 265 hp output and eCVT are priorities. On paper, the gap buys hybrid hardware and a different seating layout rather than extra capacity.

Verdict

The Innova Zenix gives Malaysian family buyers a choice of eight petrol seats or seven hybrid seats in a front-wheel-drive, three-row package. The 2.0 V costs less than the Hyundai Staria and Kia Carnival entry points, while the 2.0 HEV is dearer than both but remains below the Maxus MIFA 9. The large jump to the hybrid means the V is the straightforward entry into the range.
