Overview
The MG S5 is a B-segment electric SUV, locally assembled in Malaysia and sold in a single Lux specification. It suits buyers who want rear-wheel drive, a 62 kWh battery and a claimed 446 km WLTP range in a five-seat SUV. Prices start from RM117,528.
For 2026, the Malaysian MG S5 moves to local assembly at EPMB’s Melaka plant. The CKD model replaces the earlier three-variant line-up with one Lux version, using a 205 PS, 350 Nm rear motor and a 62 kWh battery for 446 km of WLTP range. MG also plans exports of left-hand-drive S5s from Melaka to South America. China’s facelifted MG4X/S5 has a semi-solid-state battery option, but that specification is not confirmed for Malaysia.

The locally assembled S5 makes a clear case for buyers who specifically want a rear-wheel-drive B-segment EV with a 62 kWh battery and 446 km WLTP claim. Its single-specification range keeps the buying process simple. But RM117,528 is not a budget entry point: the QV-E, Seres 3 and Atto 2 cost less, while the Aion Y Plus and iCaur 03 sit only slightly higher.
