Overview
The GWM Tank 300 is a five-seat, C-segment SUV for buyers who want all-wheel drive and a conventional petrol or hybrid powertrain. Launched in 2024, the Mk1 range starts from RM250,000, with the newer hybrid sitting at the top of the Malaysian line-up.
The Mk1 Tank 300 carries into 2026 with two Malaysian variants: the Turbo and the new HEV. The HEV adds a 2.0-litre turbo hybrid system rated at 346 PS and 648 Nm, plus automatic parking and app support. China receives a facelift centred on the longer 300L Hi4-T and Hi4-Z PHEVs, including versions claimed to offer up to 200 km of electric range on the WLTP cycle; those are separate from the Malaysian range.

Which variant to buy
Most buyers should pick the RM259,800 HEV. The RM9,800 gap over the RM250,000 Turbo buys hybrid assistance, 346 hp rather than 217 hp, automatic parking and app support. It remains an AWD five-seater, so there is no seating or driven-wheel compromise for choosing it. Choose the Turbo if the lower entry price matters more than the HEV’s substantially higher output and added convenience functions.

The Tank 300 is priced far above entry-level C-segment SUV alternatives such as the Proton eMas 7, Proton X70 and Jetour Dashing, all starting below RM107,000. But its pricing is close to the BMW iX1 and X1. The HEV makes the stronger case: it costs only RM9,800 more than the Turbo yet brings 346 PS and 648 Nm. Buyers should weigh that against its RM250,000-plus asking price.
