Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will provide eight additional KTM Komuter Utara rail services for the Butterworth and Padang Besar route from Thursday until Monday (August 27 to 31) in conjunction with the school holidays and National Day celebrations, the rail operator has stated.
These train services were added through the implementation of the KTM Komuter Northern Sector special timetable in order to meet the anticipated increase in passenger demand, it said. This would increase the total number of services on the Butterworth – Padang Besar – Butterworth route from 38 services to 46 services daily.
With the increase in train frequency, KTMB expects the volume of passengers to increase by 30% compared to normal days, with the additional services able to accommodate up to 5,000 additional passengers a day, or a total of 25,000 passengers throughout the period.
These additional rail services are among KTMB’s proactive measures to provide more travel time options for passengers intending to embark on journeys between Penang, Kedah and Perlis during this period, stated the rail operator.
Travellers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and refer to the KTM Komuter northern sector special timetable, which will be in effect throughout the period. Schedule and fare information can be obtained through the KITS Style application, the KTMB official website and social media channels, it said.
Last week, KTMB announced additional ETS services for the school holidays and National Day celebrations, for the dates of August 21 to 23, August 28 to 31 and September 4 to 6.
