The 34-year old Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile (DPCA) joint venture is slated to produce new Peugeot and Jeep models in China for domestic and overseas consumption, under a strategic cooperation agreement (SCA) signed by Stellantis and Dongfeng Group recently.
Subject to required approvals and finalisation of the relevant implementation agreements, the SCA is expected to initially produce at the Wuhan plant from 2027 “two all-new Peugeot-branded new energy vehicles” and “two Jeep-branded off-road new energy vehicles for global markets”.
The key words there are “Peugeot-branded” and “Jeep-branded“, leading us to speculate that the new models could be rebadged, or at least substantially-reengineered Dongfengs. How the tables have turned…
Still, the press release says that the Peugeot models “will be based on the latest design language of the all-new concept cars unveiled by Peugeot at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show” while stopping short of revealing any details about the Jeep models.

Anyway, the project corresponds to a combined investment of over RMB8 billion (RM4.7 billion), of which Stellantis is expected to contribute just 130 million euros (RM602 million), or less than 13%.

“Through this signing of this strategic cooperation, by integrating Hubei’s industrial strengths, Stellantis’ global layout advantages and Dongfeng’s intelligent electric vehicle technologies, a new path featuring complementary strengths and win-win outcomes for all parties has been forged,” said Dongfeng Group chairman Qing Yang.
