Since trouncing the Perodua Bezza by nearly 1,900 units in January, the Proton Saga, although now back in second place, hasn’t managed to repeat the win yet – last month’s score was 8,207 against 9,431. This has widened the year-to-date (YTD) gap between them to almost 2,500 units, up from March’s 1,265.
Sungai Choh’s Axia, Myvi and Alza take the next three spots for both April and YTD. The Proton X50, which was fifth in March with 2,860 units, is sixth in April with 2,468, thanks to the Alza’s 66% month-on-month jump to 4,115 units. At seventh and eighth are respectively the Proton S70 (2,377) and Perodua Ativa (2,230).
Meanwhile, the Perodua Traz has climbed six spots to ninth (2,220) in April, up from 1,479 units in March. The Toyota Hilux is still going strong despite high diesel prices (10th, 1,804), whereas Proton’s eMas 5 has dropped two spots to 11th (2,071 down to 1,772). But it’s still Malaysia’s best-selling EV by far, and the only EV in both monthly and YTD tables.
While the Toyota Vios has improved slightly from 14th (1,509) to 12th (1,706), the Honda City (Hatchback included) has lost a significant seven spots and 1,245 units to settle for 13th (1,498). The Toyota Alphard (including recon/grey-market units) fell slightly from 13th (1,599) to 14th (1,487).
The three newcomers to the monthly list are the Mitsubishi Xforce (15th, 1,035), the Proton eMas 7 PHEV (16th, 1,013) and the Jetour T2 (20th, 884). The first two are Malaysia’s top-selling non-national compact SUV for the month and best-selling PHEV respectively, while the Jetour has been a surprise performer.
The Honda HR-V has slipped eight spots and 946 units to 19th (886), while the Jaecoo J7 has dropped off both monthly and YTD lists. The Proton Persona is slowing down steadily (939, 903, 714, 558) – are we about to say selamat jalan to the Campro engine sooner than we thought?
