KLIA aerotrain operating as intended, early disruptions to service deemed typical for new rail systems – MAHB

Independent railway assessors reviewing the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) aerotrain say that the system is functioning as intended, stating that service disruptions since commissioning are typical for the early operational stage of complex rail systems, as the New Straits Times reports.

According to Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB), the assessors concluded these issues do not present a safety risk and can be effectively managed through structured engineering controls, continuous monitoring, and disciplined maintenance practices.

The airport operator said that the operational service availability of the service improved to 100% in December 2025 from 98.67% in July, and that aerotrain operations have remained stable since the rollout of the Comprehensive Action Plan (CAP) on November 15 last year.

On November 10, MAHB had announced a scheduled suspension of aerotrain operations between midnight and 5 am daily to facilitate routine maintenance and system checks. Following the introduction of the CAP, engineering hours were planned from 9 pm to 7 am. This was subsequently shortened to 11 pm to 7 am to accommodate the festive and school holiday peak periods.

Following improvements in work sequencing and resource deployment, the reduced engineering hours have been maintained while CAP activities continue, with MAHS saying that the overnight maintenance window is necessary to ensure the long-term reliability and safety of the system.

Just searched “HKIA Aerotrain Breakdown”, nothing but KLIA breakdown in the results. Went to AI and it said no reported breakdown in HKIA. HKIA also replaced their APM (automated people mover), no breakdowns.

61m passengers (HKIA) vs 63m passengers for KLIA, of which half are in KLIA2 and don’t use the Aerotrain so KLIA Aerotain only serves half the passengers that APM in HK does.

So whats taking so long to fire incompetent Anthony Loke for his failure as Transport Minister. Millions of tourists will laugh at PH Gomen for their failure to even get this simple thing right, and this is a new train somemore.

Under PM Najib, he built kilometers of MRT1 without so much a minor failure ever since it started, meanwhile Anwar couldnt get much simpler aerotrain to go straight!

MAHB did say that the train’s operational service availability has improved to 100% in December last year. Independent railway assessors have also said that the train system is functioning as intended, and there are no issues of safety risk. Despite these points being already mentioned in the said news article, you still can’t stop your own compulsion to produce your usual plain BS.

The more the excuses, the deeper the hole they dig for themselves. Incompetence through and through. Public trust and confidence eroded. No matter what they say now, it will be the pits. Shameful. If this happened in Japan, they would be bowing in apology and hold the 90 degree bent for a full 10 minutes. But not here. Just a mosquito sized slap on the hand and blaming the machinery instead. Something is rotten at the centre of this.
