Jetour T1 awarded five-star ASEAN NCAP rating – coming to Malaysia soon, CKD local assembly?

The Jetour T1 has been awarded the full, five-star rating from ASEAN NCAP, following the achievement by its stablemate, the T2, earlier this month.

Like the T2, the T1 was tested under the outgoing 2021-2025 assessment protocol, which has now concluded, ASEAN NCAP stated in its official release for the Jetour T1’s rating. This has been superseded by the new 2026-2030 protocol, and all assessments beginning this year will be conducted under this protocol.

Tested by the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI), the variant tested is with the 2.0 litre turbocharged engine which outputs 254 PS and 390 Nm; buyers in China can also choose one with the 184 PS/290 Nm 1.5 litre unit. As with the ASEAN NCAP report for the T2, the T1 report also lists Malaysia under “other ASEAN production”, suggesting local assembly (CKD) for the T1.

The T1 scored 30.47 points from a possible 32.00 points in the adult occupant protection (AOP) assessment, 41.26 points from a possible 51.00 points in the child occupant protection (COP) assessment, 18.00 points from a possible 21.00 points in the safety assist assessment, and 13.00 points from a possible 16.00 points in the motorcyclist safety assessment.

In the adult occupant protection (AOP) assessment, the front occupant compartment of the T1 offered adequate protection to the driver’s chest, left lower leg and feet, and adequate protection was observed for the front passenger’s left lower leg; a “good” rating was given in other regions of the front occupant compartment in the frontal impact test, as well as for the side impact test.

In the child occupant protection (COP) assessment, the T1 scored 22.88 points in the dynamic test segment, 8.00 points in the vehicle-based segment, 9.39 points for installation, and 1.00 point for child detection.

Safety assistance systems in the Jetour T1 as tested included autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and advanced assistance features (lane departure warning, forward collision warning and lane keep assist) as optional equipment, while ABS, ESC, seat belt reminders and rear occupant detection are standard on all variants.

Across the AOP, COP, safety assist and motorcyclist safety assessment categories, the Jetour T1 scored a five-star rating for each respective category, and with a weighted score of 87.67 points, arrives at its overall five-star ASEAN NCAP rating.
