Prasarana is stepping up efforts to modernise its buses – 250 EV buses are set to enter service from March 2027, in addition to 310 new diesel buses that are being delivered in stages up to next month, reports Free Malaysia Today.
“These additions are aimed at strengthening service availability and improving the operational reliability of the Rapid Bus network. To date, 301 bus stops and 16 pedestrian walkways have been completed, while construction is ongoing for another 43 bus stops and 17 walkways,” said Prasarana president and group CEO Amir Hamdan.
Dedicated bus lanes will also be expanded this year to cut passenger wait times. New Jalan Ipoh and Jalan Gombak bus lanes are set to be implemented in phases from the third quarter of 2026, while the Jalan Ampang bus lane, previously implemented on a trial basis, will be made permanent.
It was recently reported that Rapid Bus (which is under Prasarana) is trialling converting four diesel buses into EVs to see if converting is more viable than buying – full story here.
