Perodua Traz teased ahead of launch happening soon – D66B B-SUV based on Toyota Yaris Cross

After launching its first electric vehicle (EV) just a few days ago, Perodua has now teased its next model in a short video posted on its social media pages recently. We aren’t getting much in the way of details for now, but we can make an educated guess that this is the brand’s much-awaited B-segment crossover codenamed D66B.

The D66B will share a lot in common with the DNGA-based Toyota Yaris Cross, which received a five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating in August this year. The report card for the Yaris Cross stated ‘Production Malaysia for Malaysia market’ and we know that the B-SUV will be introduced here both as a Toyota and Perodua, with the latter rumoured to be called Nexis or Traz when referring to trademark filings from over three years ago.

As with the Alza and Veloz, the D66B Nexis/Traz will look slightly different from its Toyota sister. Perodua is only willing to show us a clear view of the front grille of its upcoming offering in the teaser, which has an insert featuring L-shaped motifs compared to the U-shaped ones on the Yaris Cross.

The teaser video also includes a heavily darkened wide shot of the D66B, which, after some tweaking, we can make out cues seen on the Yaris Cross like the slender headlamps and sweptback chrome trim near the C-pillars. Rendering whiz Theophilus Chin’s digital imagining of the D66B is an approximation of what we might get.

We don’t yet know what powertrains will be offered for the Nexis/Traz, but in Indonesia, the Yaris Cross is offered with a 2NR-VE 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 106 PS and 138 Nm, with drive going to the front wheels through either a five-speed manual or a CVT. In Thailand, this model is hybrid-only with a 2NR-VEX 1.5 litre NA four-cylinder engine making 91 PS and 121 Nm. This works with an 80 PS/141 Nm electric motor for a combined output of 111 PS.

The introduction of the D66B was originally scheduled to take place in April 2024, as per Kenanga Research’s report from last February. However, a focus on getting the Q-VE has likely delayed the D66B’s launch, but at least we now know it’s coming soon.

Whatever it is called, the D66B will sit above the Ativa in the line-up, with the latter currently starting at RM62,500 (OTR without insurance) and peaking at RM73,100 (RM73,400 if you count the two-tone AV option). Care to guess how much the D66B will be?

Nice, is it more powerful, bigger and merrier?

It says simplicity, designed by Perodua.
    Not DNGA?

With donor cars from Toyota or Daihatsu, Perodua should be able to counter the onslaught of Proton to maintain its market leading position. However it’s disheartening to note that our two so-called “national” entities still couldn’t stand on their own.

What does stand on their own mean?

A Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7/Q8 are all the same car with the same engine and gearbox. Does that mean these brands cannot stand on their own without VW Group tech?

smart is 50% owned by Geely and a smart #5 and Mercedes GLB are the same car. So now Merc cannot stand on their own too?

It’s 2025. When Perodua designed their own car (QV-E), everyone spit venom. When Proton built their own car with their own chassis and engine (Waja, Preve, Suprima, Exora, Satria Neo, Gen 2, Persona, Iriz) people said better buy Perodua cos they take Toyota and Daihatsu products.

So, what is it that you want?

  • Don’t put much hope on the launching.
Since the departure of the marketing lady, you can see their new products are declining.

Even their launching event also lacking punch starting from their Aruz… elevate, elevate, elevate… trying to be atas but failed badly. The recent QV-E also same. Got to wait for the teaser video to end before showing the car at the event. Why waste time showing teaser video when you are goin to show the actual car in the next moment?
If their marketing dept is competent, they won’t come out with such disastrous EV business model.

Wow really long wait like 3 years+…The most powerful engine perodua got can’t even matched the rm38k saga. Simplicity please removes the eco idle or make a permanent off setting. If the adas like in the myvi/ativa better gives a variant completely without for buyer to choose. Rm70k+ with the same myvi engine + gearbox ya still got people buy because carrying the japanese car dna.

  • Perodua EaaS Nexis/Traz on Dec 09, 2025 at 6:33 pm

We can anticipate a new word from P2 with this dated so call new car … EaaS (Engine-as-a-Service) this time around they will tie you up with a 10 year leasing contract for the engine, sell the body for Rm75k lease the Engine for Rm265 (excluding SST) that way they can say our P2 Nexis is only Rm75k.

What a joke P2 after 3 years ago in so call trying to rebadge the D66B now all of sudden they wanna launch just becoz Qv-E is a complete failure … this P2 Nexis is another Dead on Arrival product to try & shift the focus off the QV-E, outdated design, low performances/engine & probably ugly redesign plastic parts all over the vehicle the interior & exterior.

Mislead the people with the QV-E thinking everybody is stupid resulting everybody moving on to Proton … Emas 5/7 and the upcoming Emas 7 PHEV … this P2 Nexis is definitely not going to regain back loyal P2 customers !

Guess the lowest specs price will be overlapped with Ativa

Mid specs will be around RM 83k

And the highest* specs will be nearing RM90k

The highest specs will be depends on whether Toyata trust Perodua or not. Or else the highest specs will go to Toyota alongside with the Hybrid variant that will be close to Vios hybrid price.

That rm800million ev investment looks like cold than water dy. Perodua need to sold more myvi bezza to recover back some deficits, but now proton aggressively on the rise to gain back top sales. So rebadge a good model should be more clever strategies, a bit late but the Traz will beat the x50 again in term of practical direction.

Donate by Toyota as they r going to have a new facelift next year, so the old model platform just giv to Perodua to change some cosmetic makeup n then launch as new car, the Nexis. If they selling below 90k, she wil take a pie fr the facelifted x50.

Advance ABS Rental (RM50) – If no pay normal ABS brakes still works, just no stability & traction control.
Airbag rental (RM50) – If no pay only driver got airbag
ADAS rental (RM50) – If no pay, no ADAS, car drive just fine.

See, now Perodua give options. If not paying the total RM150, car reverted to 2000’s Myvi level tech, owner still can drive. Generous, right??!! WONDERFUL!!

to maintain RV we have decided to make the engine and gearbox subscription based. This allows us to sell the car at RM70k, meanwhile maintaining the RV because all the wear and tear engine and gearbox is fully owned by toyota, not the buyer. This time, learning from mistakes, we have decided to make the subscription price lower at RM199 a month, but for 10 years.
