The LRT3 Shah Alam Line that was previously set for launch on December 31 has been delayed once again, and the project is expected to be delayed until at least the second quarter of 2026, reported The Star. Citing industry sources, the is primarily due to system testing and commissioning, the final and most demanding stage of the project, according to the report.
The LRT3 Shah Alam Line is currently undergoing a mandatory fault-free run as required by the Land Public Transport Act 2010, and during this phase the 22 train sets, along with their supporting systems must be able to integrate and operate continuously and reliably, as expected of a driverless train system of the Grade of Automation 4 standard, it continued.
“If trains cannot reliably maintain these speeds, the planned service headway of six minutes becomes unachievable, directly impacting capacity and frequency for commuters, and falls short of the specifications spelt out in the Railway Scheme put up for public inspection,” said a source quoted by The Star.
Meanwhile, the news outlet also cited insiders who said that the train sets have struggled to reach and sustain the designated operating speeds of between 80-90 km/h. Other aspects which have yet to be resolved include the required documentation, and critical standard operating procedures have yet to be finalised.
In February this year, the LRT3 Shah Alam Line had originally been slated for start of operations on September 30, though this was revised towards the end of August. In November, the government was said to be keeping to its target of December 31 for the launch of the RLT3 Shah Alam Line, though this was subject to the resulting of testing, transport minister Anthony Loke said at the time.
The line is 37 km long and features 25 stations from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia, with interchanges at Bandar Utama (Kajang MRT) and Glenmarie (Kelana Jaya LRT). When it becomes operational, the rail line is expected to benefit more than two million residents in the Klang Valley.

Sorry to ask….when at the initial project planning…the Project Manager did not put all these things need to do in his/her schedule/plan ??? Why now like suka-suka hati sahaja mahu delay ??? Its look not professional at all. Its look like this project do not have total project control from initial stage. If this is the first time we do this kind of project in Malaysia….is OK lah become delay and delay again. But in actual…we already have many LRT & MRT line in Klang valley. What’s really happening ? They took Project Manager from fresh graduate ? or from different industry ?
Just fire Loke already! We are fedup with him mismanaging the transportation of Malaysia!
Isn’t the LRT3 systems project manager Firdaus Suhaimi?
Who is the Transport Minister? Loke or Firdaus Suhaimi? Maybe should replace Loke with Firdaus instead.
BUKIT’s comment is about LRT3 project manager. If u want transport minister to also become project manager & vice versa, u can ask your favourite MP to try presenting your idea in next Parliamentary session.
If transport minister cannot manage transportation in the nation, better he just go. Even the previous minister had done a lot more and that is with disruptions by Covid.
Lol yourself lah bcos u got such bad memory. In May 2021, 2 trains collided on the Kelana Jaya LRT line between the KLCC & Kg. Baru stations, injuring 213 passengers. And here you go praising the previous transport minister who was in charge then. Does this mean that u are not as enthusiastic about having that previous minister step down although an actual train mishap had happened on his watch, as compared to the current minister who is letting Prasarana & MRCB do whatever it takes to ensure the public safety of this new LRT3 Shah Alam line in accordance to the Land Public Transport Act 2010? You do really have a mind of a child!
maybe we should pay Loke triple salary since you expect him to be responsible for the jobs of transport miniuster, mahb ceo, and prasarana ceo
Learn nothing from the KLIA Aerotrain, still the same minister making the same mistake over and over and over and over again. Just fire him!
Learn nothing from the KLIA Aerotrain which was also delayed due to testing and even testing also failure. So happy those cronies contractor no accountability , no firing , no nothing while take tax payers money and then wait la like that accept it la its been for deacades.
Eh, how long some more you want to make use of the same reason “primarily due to system testing and commissioning, the final and most demanding stage of the project”??
If the train cannot reach, maintain and sustain the required speed, where is the due diligence done during the purchase of the trains? Dont tell me you didnt test the speed of the trains b4 buying? You think you buying from pasar malam ah?
Almost few yrs ready since the commencement of the project, and you guys dont have an SOP to start with? That’s the basis of a project beginning la!! That’s where your project relies upon,a framework to be based for the project progress..
Anthony Lok, what’s the next number plate you’re going to sell, since that looks like your priority?
Hate to say this but shouldn’t MOT/Gomen apply LAD to the contractor? so many EOT given but no result. Should kena them kau kau since they are using tax payers money.
Another Msian Failure….everything fail!!…mad dah ni!
The LRT3 passes by the Klang General Hospital but does not have a station there. Instead there is a station further up at Klang Jaya which faces empty land on one side of the road and some old shops on the other side. This will not be a popular station and it’s quite a walk to the Hospital. Elderly and sick people will find the half kilometer walk difficult. Meanwhile the Hospital is badly in need of public transport and the car park although big is always full with people double parking and blocking others. Can somebody please explain why a LRT station is not provided for the public hospital which would greatly benefit from it?
Planning…still a good thing to do first. Planning…still something our various governments fail at.
LRT3 37km with 25 stations!!! What a joke, average less than 1.5km there will be a station.
The biggest joke of all, eg pasar besar klang station is less than 800m away from Jalan Meru primary school!!!
too many stations because some malaysian people cant even walk few hundred meters.
Should faster replace the transport minister, he is definitely not capable at all. Imagine if a project manager can’t manage a project well in a company causing delay at least 5 times in 2 years he would have been terminated earlier without even having a chance to delay once and once again.
