Three months on from the Thailand debut of the hybrid version of the Toyota Yaris Ativ – which we know as the Vios in Malaysia – the 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid has been sighted on Malaysian roads, seen here in images courtesy of Weng Ng on the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group on Facebook.
Not one, but two versions of the electrified B-segment sedan have been sighted locally, and these appear to be of the Premium and GR Sport trim variants as sold in Thailand, in the light blue and red exterior paint colours respectively.
Referencing the Thailand market, the GR Sport gets a more assertive bodykit and larger rolling stock, these being 17-inch alloys shod in 205/50R17 tyres; the Premium gets 16-inch wheels in 195/60R16 tyres, though the blue car shown here also wears bodywork additions. In Thailand, the GR Sport variant also gets a revised suspension tune with front and rear stabiliser bars, and retuned electric power steering.
Both trim variants are sold in Thailand, powered by the 1,496 cc 2NR-VEX naturally aspirated inline-four cylinder petrol engine that outputs 91 PS at 5,500 rpm and 121 Nm from 4,000 rpm to 4,800 rpm, paired with an 80 PS/141 Nm electric motor powered by a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery for a combined output of 111 PS that goes to the front wheels through an E-CVT automatic transmission, which can also be expected locally.
Toyota claims that the Thailand-market Yaris Ativ HEV achieves a best-in-class fuel consumption figure of 29.4 km/l in Premium trim, and the electrified version of the B-segment sedan gets a 36 litre fuel tank, compared to the 40 litre unit in the 1.2 litre ICE variants for that market.
In Thailand, safety kit on the Vios Hybrid includes the Toyota Safety Sense suite with the Lane Keeping Control (LKC) function that works with the full-speed range adaptive cruise control (ACC), plus the blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, panoramic view monitor, digital video recorder (dashcam), two front and four rear parking sensors, and six airbags.
When the Toyota Vios Hybrid arrives on the Malaysian market, which it appears likely to do, it will now bring an electrified offering to its B-segment sedan range, which rival Honda already offers in the City e:HEV RS that is presently priced at RM111,900. How much do you think the Vios Hybrid will be priced?

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.

Toyota hybrid works best in stop start traffic where it makes the most out of the the electric motor and battery system to its best. You don’t test the car from KL to penang at 90kmh, light footed drive. A standard non hybrid diesel car has better FC doing so.
Hybrid car was created to reduce level of emission (which happened at the polluted california in the early 80s, hence the introduction of the LEV term and companies like Honda creating CVCC and Mitsubishi had MCA-Jet). Toyota went one step further – realising the importance of EV when engine power is not really.necessary.
Fuel saving comes as a bonus.
Paultan team needs to confirm this by a simple test. Drive the vios hybrid along with its conventional ICE powered variant from KL to Cheras and return to Bangsar on a busy Monday morning traffic (7am-9am). See the differences during refill.
And later can do the same test against cars like City hybrid and maybe one of Nissan e power cars.
Nowadays hybrid car like the toyota cross are way better fc even on hyway vs its cousin the 1.8 non hybrid version. The hybrid battery will help the engine on acceleration/ incline & engine will stop while coasting or downhill( all on battery powered). I’ve been using my company car cross hybrid for the past 6 mths. Compared to my ice cx5 & conti, even on hyway the cross hybrid can easily do average 6l / 100km….urban will be 4.5-5.5l/100km
This questionable title
Done abit more homework
At least it means SURE COMING
but not sure how many VARIANTS
Here in msia, resale value of a hybrid is lower vs its ice cousin ….example- cross hybrid same year 2nd hand price is lower vs its 1.8 cousin….
Hybrid car after 8~10 years the battery and the aircond compressor will cost u a bomb to replace.
