Shell Recharge App launched in Malaysia for EV charging; function via ParkEasy app ends this month

Shell Malaysia has officially launched the Shell Recharge App, which now becomes the key point of interaction between EV users and the charge point operator for EV charging on the Shell Recharge EV charging network.

Available on Google Play for Android devices and from the Apple App Store for Apple iOS devices, the Shell Recharge App enables a credit or debit card to be linked in order to make payments for charging sessions. The nearest available charging points can be located with the in-app site locator, while vehicle charging sessions can be tracked live on the app.

“The launch of the Shell Recharge App marks the next chapter of our evolution in EV charging. It builds on the progress made over the years in expanding our high-performance charging network, and enhancing reliability for EV drivers across Malaysia,” said Shell Mobility & Convenience Malaysia general manager Seow Lee Ming.

The Shell Recharge App functions for cross-border charging between Malaysia and Singapore, and Shell Malaysia is working to extend its reach to include Thailand as well, it said.

Shell Malaysia today stated that the EV charging functionality through the ParkEasy app will be decommissioned at the end of this month, and users with credit remaining in the ParkEasy app will need to verify their credit and consent to the transfer on the ParkEasy credit transfer page.

Upon verification, credit will be received into the user’s new Shell Recharge account within 14 working days, according to the Shell Malaysia website.

This comes after the Shell-ParkEasy partnership that was announced in 2022, when Shell Malaysia acquired a 50% stake in ParkEasy parent company Pixelbyte.

In response to a question regarding the Shell App that is separate from the just-launched Shell Recharge App, Shell Malaysia stated that the two will be integrated in the long-term, however the two apps will continue to operate in parallel.
