Finally, we have a launch date for the Proton eMas 5. Pro-Net has been busy posting up teasers for the second eMas model, but the latest one, which went up yesterday (October 20), says “10 days to go, an EV for every Malaysian”. That translates to October 30.
The eMas 5, which is set to be Malaysia’s cheapest EV, has been open for booking since October 4, and Pro-Net says that it collected 3,000 bookings for the rebadged Geely Xingyuan in the first week of order taking. The eMas 5 is offered in Prime and Premium variants, with pricing estimated at RM60,000 and RM80,000 respectively.
Both are rear-wheel drive, with the Prime churning out 79 PS (58 kW) and 130 Nm of torque and delivering 225 km of WLTP-rated range from its 30.12 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The Premium boosts outputs to 116 PS (85 kW) and 150 Nm, and its larger 40.16 kWh LFP pack offers a more usable range of 325 km.
We’ve driven the Proton eMas 5 and here’s our first impressions report and video. Also, here’s a full look at the Flint Grey interior colour option – it’s the standard cabin theme, as the fancier Alabaster White is only applied to cars painted in Marble Cream and Quartz Rose, colours that are reserved for the top-spec Premium.
Will we see a slightly lower than estimated price and an attractive early bird package from Pro-Net? October 30 is the day.

Good
With 200+km per 100% charge, there’s nothing much you can do with it. Want to drive for Grab also rugi besar. Want to go Ipoh for taugeh chicken from KL also don’t know can or not.
Can use for daily commute to work and recharge every night. less range means smaller and lighter battery means more efficient.
It’s a double edge sword. Smaller batteries also means you charge more often. Every battery regardless of chemistry has It’s own life cycle charging numbers. The more often you charge, the faster it degrade over the years. Just like your handphone, 1st year great battery life subsequent year started showing degradation and you start charging now and then throughout the day. It’s the same pricinciple here. Anyhow, this doesn’t concern user that much in China as EV is a lot cheaper over there. They will just buy a new car over there.
Brother, this kinda comment you make 5 years ago people won’t call you stupid but in 2025 you say this, then well you’re just uneducated on EV or just plain ignorant – this is a city car, not an interstate car.
Did it advertised as not an interstate car? With so many limitation, who would want to buy except few wannabe ignorants.
Suitable for spouse who drives to work within the town/city, to fetch kids to and from school and to do grocery run. If need to go outstation then use the larger ICE family car. example husband got the big car for outstation, wife use emas 5 for daily commute and to run errands.
Can ma…just stop long time mid way to Ipoh. And few times.
Can ma…for Grab…half of time of the day you are charging…tats “productivity” bro.
thats about as logical as hauling heavy loads with a myvi. we dont expect a myvi to do the job of a pickup truck.
If wanna use for daily to working around 80km+- buy the rm80k 325km range 1 lah. If use short distance near home buy sayur monthly goes 100km+- only buy the cheaper variance enough dy, maybe charge every 2 weeks or monthly.
Use to drive grab cannot lah, drive full day easily >300km dy. Use back bezza or saga lah.
