Why aren’t we surprised – the Proton eMas 5, open for booking on Saturday at an estimated RM60k-80k, collected a total of 1,607 bookings just 24 hours later. That’s more than one every minute on average!
“We’re truly humbled by the overwhelming response from Malaysians for Proton eMas 5. Our mission has always been to make EV ownership accessible to all, and with the eMas 5, we’re turning that vision into reality. It’s truly Malaysia’s most affordable EV, built for the rakyat,” Pro-Net CEO Zhang Qiang said.
Prime and Premium variants, Geely Xingyuan-based with no Proton ride and handling, rear-wheel drive, 30 and 40 kWh CATL LFP batteries, and WLTP ranges between 225 and 325 km. Wanna know more? Read our open for booking and preview stories.

Spend 60-80K to get a 200+ range.
u can still drive around the world with this car if u really want, only need to spend more time stopping and charging.
expecting so much and asking a lot for a car which only costs USD13k in china. if ur so capable why dont u build ur own car, or show me an EV from another company which is superior to this.
That kind of money can get you a decent car with zero downtime while enjoying RM1.99/l with at least 400km per tank. Easily from KV to Penang non-stop with zero worry.
B40 here so proud of his Axia . lets compare EV to EV ok , not apples to oranges.
Rakyat prefer fuel-efficient vehicles, and the e.MAS 5 is fuel savings.
The e-Mas 5 makes for a poor EV buying decision. With the low mileage and advancing battery tech, rushing to buy this e-Mas 5 because it is priced at RM60-80K makes no sense to me. Besides, the new road tax structure to be implemented in 2026 is still an unknown factor. Another point to take note of is the impending budget to be unveiled on Friday.
200+ km if perfect for most users as daily driver. How many km you travel a day. Only people with no proper jobs aka sales or MLM people will drive a lot daily. For most people this is more than enough. LFP battery some more. Drive upto 1 million KM also no problem with LFP battery
With tat KIND of range…it’s more like buying an oversized super expensive toy car…really.
Next CNY and Raya will be interesting at the highway charging stations!
Every year, every festival say the same thing… boring lah… sour grapes are everywhere.
They will use ICE cars or long distance drive. This car is for going to send and fetch kids from school, send kids to tuition, go to work, pasar, city drive, etc….
Perodua still on holiday mood, they r complacent with their current sales figure. Hope that after this launch n the upcoming new saga, P2 wil wake up .
If the first batch buyers gets positive owner experience after 6 months, even myvi sales will be affect.
Just makesure u live in a landed house before u book an EV.
Lamppost can charge ma according to certain expert from a local U
which local U, is it uitm or uuim or mara
Lamp post charging points are all over central London and it’s not anything new. It’s one of those where you have to plug in your own cable. 3kW-7kW only but for overnight charging or quick top up it’s enough
Ideally 400km range. JB to KL or KL to Penang without stopping for charging.
I’m wondering if there’s is any genius who illegally tap power from lamppost to charge their EV?
you can be the first genius to do that
Sometimes I wonder who are these early booking buyers.
Always when a new car is launch for P1 cars. The early booking is about the same figures.
Are they P1 own dealers and sales office bookings for their test drive vehicles.
Just weird looking at the early bookings figures for all the newly launch models.
Sir,in Bolehland, there is a breed of diehard hardcore P1 fanboys who will not buy any car except a Proton.
And the beautiful part,is they buy blind folded..without knowing the actual price. These are desperadoes who will spend an arm or leg without due diligence.
And after a few months,u can see the same car in a used car lot..cos the first buyer cant afford the instalments.
kinte kunte again with his weird fantasy.
dont kena scam by the figures, the booking is only rm99, however the actual figure should be loan approved. booking is refundable for most cars anyways. so if want to raise figures just get ‘kawan-kawan’ to help book, maybe big kawan-kawan
hard sell, if they had spec-ed this higher to 400km range, itd prolly eat into the emas7 sales. im definitely sure they could have had a denser battery in there to get more than 400km. would an additional 10k MYR do with 400km in a 800v package ?
RM60K to buy a glorified golf cart. It’s not worth the money.
its perfect for 2nd/3rd family car , especially if you have solar connected to the grid.
Unless government says by 2030 only EVs can be used in the city centre of KL, PJ, Penang and JB.. then people would que up to buy this car. Otherwise, NO.
The numbers are the usual thing – early adopters. Many EV dealers are struggling that most of the sales advisors had left and the dealers kept on looking for new sales people. Well, good lucj to them.
We should thank these buyers. They will lead the push for better public charging infrastructure.
Most of the time (99%) though you will be charging at home until DC charging is as ubiquitous as it is in China. Not going to happen anytime soon with RM1.99 I’m afraid
this will sell definitely, even if its a rebadged china car with zero proton identity it will sell
Geely Xingyuan has 4,000 people developing it, and PRDC Hangzhou has 200 people developing e.MAS 5. So got 5% Proton identity
they like to claim others achievements as their own, for example FAM import foreign footballers, claim Hang Tuah was not from china, claim constantinople then change its name to istanbul.
We hope the EV infrastructure in Malaysia will continue to expand as more EV car roaming on our roads. Otherwise, many people may hold their interest to buy an EV cars.
1607 unit sold x 20k margin total up profit 32 million
20k profit margin , u must be dreaming, this guy merely subtracted the china selling price against the malaysian price . what u think the cars swam here by themselves ? no need shipping costs?
Change right hand side drive, tanjung malim plant, import fee, showroom, proton factory workers gaji, 1 car profit rm20k considered rahmah madani dy.
Greedy dudes like umw, bermaz, honda sell u 1.5NA rm90k~rm120k that’s really ashamed.
