Honda BR-V launched in India with 1.5L i-DTEC diesel

Honda BR-V India-05

After Thailand and Indonesia, the Honda BR-V has now been launched in India. There’s something new for the subcontinent not seen in the two ASEAN markets – a 1.5 litre i-DTEC engine.

The DOHC diesel engine is also from Honda’s latest Earth Dreams Technology family and puts out 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. It’s exclusively paired with a six-speed manual engine and boasts claimed fuel consumption of 21.9 km/l. The low rpm torque from the oil burner should benefit this people carrier.

The other engine is a 1.5 litre SOHC i-VTEC petrol unit with 119 PS and 145 Nm, as found in other markets. It can be had in India with the 6MT or a CVT automatic, with FC claims of up to 16 km/l (15.4 for 6MT).

The BR-V is available in nine variants comprising two engines and four trim levels – E, S, V and the top VX. As mentioned, the diesel is manual-only, and the petrol CVT combo is only available as a V. Prices in India range from 8.75 lakhs (RM52,550) for the E petrol to 12.9 lakhs (RM77,473) for the VX diesel.

Features available in the top spec BR-V include projector headlamps, foglamps, LED position lamps, LED tail lights, power retractable wing mirrors, auto air con, rear AC vents, keyless entry with push start, Bluetooth and steering buttons. The seats are slidable and reclinable for the second row, and reclinable for the third row. Both rows are foldable, 50:50 for the third and 60:40 for the second.

Safety wise, the BR-V comes standard with dual front airbags. All diesel variants get ABS and EBD, which are available from the S onwards in the petrol camp. The seven-seater can be had in six colours in India. Live pics of the range-topping diesel below are from Indian Autos Blog.
